Fractured Implant

Well we made it to post op 10 months at least!!!!

I have felt what was like a crack in the rim of the ear weeks ago but didn't want to over think it or create something out of what I was hoping was just me being over paranoid. Last night when Robbie kissed me good night I looked at him and my radar went straight to his ear. Something looked different, there was a dent in the side. I ran my finger around it and sure enough I can feel the crack and where the implant has shifted so the top part over hangs. I immediately freaked out and cried of course and was in total disbelief.

I get a call from school about once every few weeks that a kid bumps his ear or Robbie bumped his ear but I never worried because these implant were to be pretty durable, RIGHT???? I cant pinpoint or tell you when, how, or where my little guy did this. How come these low odds of stuff happening don't happen in Vegas???? This will be implant #4!!

Dr R calls it a helical rim fracture and says its not an urgency to replace but to do so in next several months because the fracture end can cause a hole from the inside with time. We have decided since we are on the last membrane that this is urgent and are trying to makes plans to book as fast as we can. Plus we cant bear to go through an exposure again. Please keep my little guy in your thoughts and ill post as I get more news.

Milestone!! 6 Months Post Op

We have reached a milestone since Robbies surgeries, that being 6 months post op with no complications. The ear looks great and his hearing is good. I feel like I can breathe my sigh of relief now and just continue to move forward. He had an ENT appointment yesterday and besides some wax build up which was expected everything looked great.

Robbie seems to be having no issues at school and is hearing fine. No kids ever ask about his ear and scars and life is pretty normal for my little guy.

All Better

Well the ear is not swollen anymore and is looking good again. Dr Reinisch did not give Robbie any antibiotics and told me to call him if the ear didnt look better by the next day. After about the 3rd day from being bit it looked fine. PHEW!!!!

Damn Bugs!

Well Tom and I dropped the kids off last Friday for a camping trip with grandma and grandpa. All precautions were took and Grandma dipped Robbie in mosquito spray daily but of course on his last day he got bit by one in the ear. We went through this last year so I am going to stay positive and not freak myself out. We will do the usual and send pics to Reinsich and wait to see if antibiotics are needed. DAMN SKEEETOES!!

13 weeks and 6 days post op

Things continue to go well as far as healing. Robbie got an ear infection Saturday in his left ear but the right is still good. It is so surreal at times looking at him and seeing this beautiful new ear. I couldnt be any happier.
